When the State of Connecticut Department of Public Health received funding for outreach into the community for people over 50 to get screened for Colorectal Cancer, OTM was retained to work its magic using limited funding to make as much noise as possible. It turned out to be a 4-year campaign, with each year having outreach in a different area of the state, from Greater Hartford, Eastern Connecticut, to Greater Bridgeport and Greater New Haven. All campaigns were uniquely different, but all included messaging geared to the over 50 communities, with people of all ethnicities being reached. Key components included unique bus wraps (curbside and roadside), radio commercials, radio interviews, TV commercials featuring national celebrities, newspaper ads, and newspaper post-its on the front pages, brochures created and distributed at area hospitals, pharmacies, walk-in clinics, Senior Centers, all of the places that key members of the demographic visited. One of the most significant elements was merchandise and brochures created and distributed at local events. The brochures mentioned that you Pledged To Get a Colonoscopy. As people signed up, half was given to the guest, and the other half was used for a drawing for Dunkin Donuts gift cards (mainly during cold winter months events). The other half was also used to send follow-up letters from the DPH Commissioner reminding them of their pledge. Events were held at concerts, hospitals, health fairs, senior centers, sporting events, expos, and theaters—any place where the target demographic attended.

More Than A Partner

OTM went beyond being just a marketing partner for the State of Connecticut Department of Public Health, transforming limited resources into a dynamic, multi-year colorectal cancer screening campaign that resonated with diverse communities across the state. By combining creative strategies like bus wraps, TV spots, and grassroots outreach at local events, OTM maximized engagement and impact, making every dollar count and keeping the message front and center.
